Walter C. "Sonny" Abel, 76, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026.
Sonny is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Robendee Abel; his children, Richard Abel, Alisha Herman (Abel), Troy Dorenkamp (Emily), and Marcus Hibbard; his cherished grandchildren, Colin Herman, Kylie Dorenkamp, and Alonna Abel; his brothers, Greg (Renee) Abel, Tom (Kathy) Abel, and Kevin Abel; his sister, Connie (Doug) Maze; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Dorothy Abel; his son, Walter Abel; his first wife, Rosalinda "Linda" Abel (Yim); and his beloved prairie dog and faithful companion, Willow.
Sonny proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, serving aboard the USS Constellation in the Gulf of Tonkin.
He was a proud member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 562 for 47 years.
More than anything, Sonny was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether to family, friends, neighbors, or even strangers. His generosity, loyalty, and willingness to help others will be remembered by everyone who knew him.
Sonny loved the outdoors and found happiness hunting, fishing, and spending time on his Kubota tractor. He enjoyed life's simple pleasures and treasured the time he spent with his family. His hardworking spirit, generous heart, and unwavering love for those closest to him will never be forgotten.
Sonny's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
