A devoted father, Thomas is survived by his children: Thomas Newport Jr., Laura Newport, Timothy (Julie) Newport, Beth Newport, Ann Newport, and Rose (Drew) Thompson. In a family who values the use of monikers, he wore his nickname proudly-"Greaty," lovingly given to him by his daughter Beth.

Tom found joy in life's simple pleasures. His hobbies included golfing, gardening, sports and bird watching. He also enjoyed gambling and never passed up an opportunity to join a game of poker with family and friends. He especially treasured family gatherings, outings, and vacations, where his presence brought people together.
He dedicated many years to coaching his children's sports teams at St. Luke's the Evangelist parish, sharing not only his love of the game but also lessons in teamwork and character. His commitment was recognized when he was honored as the 1983 CYC Coach of the Year!
Tom attended St. James the Greater Catholic School in dogtown and went on to graduate from McBride High School in 1958. After which, he built a long and respected career through his work ethic and determination. He retired in 2009 after running the special use permits division for the St. Louis County Department of Highways and Traffic for over 20 years. During his 46-year tenure, he earned the respect of colleagues and left a lasting impact through his dedication and expertise.
He had a special love for animals, plants, and his children, and he took pride in teaching them the nuances and care each required. His knowledge left a profound impression on all who knew him.
A dear brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many, Tom will be remembered for his warmth, his humor, and the meaningful connections he built throughout his life.
A lifelong Catholic and believer in Christ, he lived in faith that this is not the end and now rests in the hope of the Resurrection. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
