Stephen Gerhard Konert, 75, passed away at home in Fenton on March 6, 2026. He was a decorated Vietnam Army veteran, beloved grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. He loved his career as a railroad engineer with Frisco and then BNSF railroads, retiring after more than 30 years of service. He could connect most anything to a tale in his vast bank of memories. From his childhood on the family farm with his siblings to sharing his love of the farm with his daughter, grandaughter, nieces and nephews, he cherished his family, his friends, and long conversations over a cup of coffee at Dickmans. Born April 18, 1950, the fifth of nine children born to August and Margaret (Stetina) Konert, he lived a life full of humor, honor, and kindness.
Left to cherish his memory are his grandaughter, Delaney Konert-Edison, siblings Patricia von zur Muehlen (Joe), Dolores (Mike) McGuire, Carolyn (Ray) Roettger, Cathy (Jim) Schierhoff, and Elizabeth Konert and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kimberly Konert, brother Theodore Konert, and sisters Margaret Toler and Jacqueline Littge.
Visitation is Monday, March 16 from 4 to 8 pm at Jay B. Smith Funeral Home in Fenton. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on March 17 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Fenton with burial to follow at St. John's Cemetery in High Ridge.
