Obituary

Solola "Birdie" Wilson (Hudson) was born on June 19, 1946, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Willie Hudson and Gertrude "Bees" Hudson (Green). From the very beginning, she carried a quiet strength, a gentle spirit, and a heart full of love. She spent her childhood in Bessemer, AL. Her family later relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, where she attended Vashon High School and continued her education at Lindenwood University, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work. She spent many years living in Detroit, Michigan in her early adult years. Solola lived a life of service and compassion. She worked as an educator in the Jennings School District before dedicating many years to Catholic Charities, serving as a social worker at Queen of Peace until her retirement. She believed in uplifting others, advocating for families, and supporting her community with dignity and grace. A devoted woman of faith, Solola loved the Lord and ensured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren always knew who Jesus was. Her walk with God was quiet but powerful, rooted in love, humility, and unwavering kindness. To her family, she was the heartbeat, the foundation, and the steady voice of wisdom. She loved fiercely and selflessly, always making sure her loved ones were cared for. She never complained, never wavered, and always led with grace. Whether she was sharing her wisdom, enjoying movies and TV shows with her beloved granddaughter Philece, or simply offering a gentle word, she made everyone around her feel safe, understood, and deeply loved. Her life was a lesson in strength, resilience, and unconditional love - a legacy that lives on in every life she touched. Solola entered eternal rest on October 24, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Hudson and Gertrude "Bees" Hudson (Green), and her sister, Alvis Pearson. She leaves to honor her memory her brother, William Henry Hudson, and her children: Yolinda Wilson (Reginald Logan) and Willie Wilson. She was the cherished grandmother to Philece C. Horton (Henry Horton), Felix Wilson, Ashley Logan, Raven James (Jay James), and Caleb Wilson. She was a proud great-grandmother to Payton Murrell, Harleigh Solola Marie Horton, Empress James, Helayna Horton, Koleigh James, HaMenna Horton, Elijah Logan, and Mr. Henry M. Horton, V. She also leaves her nieces Yolonda Brown and Orlantha Pearson, her great-nieces Bianca Brown and Alfreda Brown, and her great-great-nieces Kiko Brown and Farrish Brown, along with a host of family and friends who loved her dearly. Solola "Birdie" Wilson will forever be remembered for her warmth, her wisdom, her gentleness, and her unwavering love for her family. She gave her all to this world, and her legacy will remain in every prayer spoken, every life lifted, and every heart she helped heal.
