Sandy K. Gracey (nee Frauenfelder) December 20, 1941 - October 17, 2018 Beloved wife of Doug Gracey; Dear daughter of the late Dick and Mary Frauenfelder; Loving mother of Chris Fox and Mike Fox of Kirkwood, Kevin Gracey and Chris King of Maryland Hts. and Karen Quicke and Rick Quicke of St. Charles; Sandy was a devoted sister, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and cherished friend to many; Memorial Gathering Mon. Oct. 22, from 4 to 8pm at the JAY B. SMITH MAPLEWOOD CHAPEL 7456 Manchester; Memorials to Hope House of Miller Co. P.O. Box 2381 Lake Ozarks, MO 65049 Our family lost its heart on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. Sandy Gracey, beloved wife of Doug Gracey and amazing mother of Chris Fox, Kevin Gracey , and Karen Quicke, and devoted grandmother of Matthew, Brendan and Alyssa Fox and Ryan, Jason and Lauren Quicke, passed away suddenly. Sandy was born December 20, 1941 to the late Richard Frauenfelder and Mary Theis Frauenfelder in San Diego, CA. She grew up in Florissant, Missouri with her loving brother Dale(wife Carol), and beautiful sisters Nancy (husband Roger Gassel) and Pat (husband Herb Olmsted). Sandy graduated from DeAndreis High School and became an administrative assistant, working at various firms including Williams Tile Company and retiring from the Division of Aging in Jefferson City, MO. Sandy was married to Doug on October 6, 1962. Sandy and Doug lived in Florissant and brought Chris, Kevin, and Karen into the world. Sandy was an amazing mom who, along with Doug, taught their children to be responsible citizens, but also showed them what a loving and respectful marriage looks like, and how to just have fun together. A great deal of the fun we all had together took place at our house at the Lake of the Ozarks, and we cherish the memories of boat rides, barbequing and cooking together, bringing many friends and family members to share many days and nights of boating, swimming, skiing, Jet-skiing, floating on "noodles", and big group meals. When we were kids, Sandy taught us to swim and respect the water, "graded" our dives for endless hours, and just enjoyed being near the water with us. At home, Sandy made Halloween costumes, made hot chocolate on snow days, made salt dough Christmas ornaments, baked treats with us, and countless other small things that her children enjoyed and now treasure. When Chris married Mike Fox, and Karen married Richard Quicke, and Kevin brought Chris King into our lives, Sandy showed us how to be a supportive and respectful mother-in-law, offering guidance without intrusion. As the six grandchildren, Matthew, Brendan, Alyssa, Ryan, Jason, and Lauren, were born, Sandy relished the role of grandmother. Even though they were living at the lake house full time, Sandy and Doug never hesitated to drive the three hours into St. Louis to babysit, attend hockey games, baseball games, basketball games, soccer games, volleyball games, softball games, plays, concerts, grandparents' masses, and any other event the grandkids were part of. We will always treasure her smiling face on the sidelines or in the audience, watching with pride. Sandy enjoyed cooking, and passed this passion to Chris and Karen. Sandy loved making sure that there was a meal ready when guests showed up at the lake house, or for holiday or any other celebrations. She loved to sew and create, and loved doing puzzles. She also was passionate about volunteering in her retirement, and loved giving her time and gentle smile at Hope House in Lake Ozark, MO, and later at St. Luke's Hospital. Sandy and Doug took many wonderful trips together, both in the US and in Europe. Sandy was an honorary mom to Neils Matthiasen and his wife Lone in Silkeborg, Denmark as well as to Junko Mitsuhashi of Japan. Sandy and Doug had the opportunity to twice visit Neils and Lone in Denmark, and loved corresponding with them and with Junko via Skype and keeping up with their lives. Sandy and Doug loved to join Chris and Mike's family and Karen and Rick's family on trips to places like Pensacola, Florida and DisneyWorld, and we all enjoyed every moment. It is very difficult to assign words to the feelings of loss we as a family are feeling at the loss of this amazing person. We are now left to keep her memory alive by valuing each other as much as she valued us, and remembering that spending time together and being ready to go and be a part of whatever event is next is the essence of her life…a life well lived. We love you, Sandy Gracey, and will treasure your memory.
