It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Charles Pope, who left this world on July 18, 2026, at the age of 69. Richard was born on January 21, 1957, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Richard was the beloved son of Mildred and Walter Wies. He was predeceased by his cherished mother, Mildred, his stepfather, Walter, and his grandparents, Myrtle and James Fleming. He was also preceded in death by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Richard is survived by his loving Aunt Joyce Edwards, Aunt Sandra Atkinson, and a family of cousins and close friends who will forever hold his memory dear.

Richard's journey in life was marked by his passion for the culinary arts. A graduate of Fox High School in 1975, he embarked on a remarkable 40 plus year career at Red Lobster, where he honed his skills and delighted many with his culinary creations. He also worked at Zenia Restaurant for many years where he perfected sorbet. Even after retiring, his love for the craft drew him to work part-time at Panera, where he continued to bring joy to others through his dedication and warmth until the very end.

Richard was a man of kindness and compassion. He had an innate desire to help those around him, often assisting friends and neighbors with cleaning and maintaining their homes. His pride in his own surroundings was evident, as he took meticulous care of his home and belongings.

Animals held a special place in Richard's heart. He adored his pets, and when he lost his beloved dogs, Vinnie and Cotton, he found solace in his feline companion, Natalie. This beautiful cat brought him comfort and companionship in his later years.

Richard was deeply devoted to his family, particularly his mother, Mildred. The love he had for her was truly special and was a testament to his character as a devoted and caring son.

A memorial service will be held to honor Richard's life on Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 1-3pm at JB Smith Funeral home, 777 Oakwood

Fenton, MO 63026.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has loved and supported Richard throughout his life. He will be remembered as a loving and caring soul, whose warmth and generosity touched the lives of many.

May he rest in peace.
