Philip John Dodson

September 19, 1983-October 9, 2026

Philip John Dodson, of Fenton, Missouri, passed away on October 9, 2026, just outside his home, at the age of 43. He grew up in Kirkwood, Missouri making many lifelong friends. While he enjoyed traveling, he never ventured away from his St. Louis roots for too long. When, he could most often be found at the beach, on a boat or hanging by the pool, soaking up the sunshine and wearing his iconic sunglasses.

Philip loved the outdoors and the freedom that came with it and doing what he loved to do. He enjoyed hunting, camping, waterskiing, boating, and working out. Philip was a hard worker, a creative thinker, and an entrepreneur who had a remarkable ability to reinvent himself and start over. He began his career in construction and went on to master many facets of the industry, building a solid career through determination, hands-on experience, and a willingness to learn. He was a dedicated worker and a good supervisor who took pride in what he did and the people with whom he worked. Whatever challenges life presented, he possessed a drive to pick himself up, find a new direction, and begin again.

Philip was strong and not necessarily a man of many words or long, deep conversations, but there was so much more to him than he always expressed. He had his own way of navigating life, and those who knew him best understood the heart beneath his strong exterior. Philip fought his own demons as time went on and his struggles were part of his story, but they were never the whole story. Those who loved him never stopped hoping for brighter days, for healing, and for the peace that would allow him to find his footing again and truly recognize the love that surrounded him. Through the difficult seasons, he remained a son, a brother, a father, and a beloved part of a family that wanted nothing more than to see him happy and well.

Philip worked hard, played harder, and lived his life like the bases were loaded and he was Casey at bat. He lived large, embraced adventure, and made an impression that was uniquely his own. His life was not always easy or predictable, but it was a life filled with experiences, new beginnings, and moments that will live on in the memories of those who shared them with him. Though his time here was far too short, Philip's life cannot be measured by the number of years he lived, nor can his story be defined by its hardest chapters. He will be remembered for his strength, his work ethic, his adventurous spirit, his unmistakable sunglasses, his love of the outdoors, and the many memories that made him who he was.

Philip leaves behind his beloved daughter, Izzy Dodson; his mother, Kristin Dodson; his father, John W. Dodson Jr., and stepmother, Kathy; his brother, Greg Dodson; his sister, Michelle Dodson; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by the many lifelong friends and others whose paths he crossed throughout his life.

As family and friends gather to remember we may never fully understand why his life ended so soon, but we find comfort in our faith and in the hope that Philip is now at peace, free from the struggles that followed him in this life. We entrust him to God's loving care, trusting in His infinite mercy and love. While our hearts grieve his absence, we take comfort in knowing that God's love is greater than our understanding, and we hold on to the hope of peace for Phil and healing for those who love him. We will miss you, Philip. You were loved more than you knew, your life mattered, your story matters, and you will not be forgotten.

"The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart." - Psalm 34:18 (KJV)
