Obituary

Nelda E. Hoemann (nee Hoch) ---- Nelda was born August 13, 1925 in Kirkwood, MO to Edward J. and Ida (Weiss) Hoch. She passed away Oct. 11, 2014 at the age of 89. She grew up in Gray Summit, MO, graduating from Washington High School in 1943. After high school, she moved to St. Louis, working as a file clerk for International Shoe and Shell Oil companies, among others. Dear wife of the late Ivo Hoemann for more than 60 years. Loving mother of Darrell (Kathryn Rybka) Hoemann and Keith (Marilyn) Hoemann. Cherished grandmother of Neil Hoemann, Stephanie (Mead) Hanna and Craig Hoemann. Great-grandmother of Carson Hanna. Dear sister-in-law of Marilyn and "Dep" Wilbert Deppermann, Willard and Irene Hoemann and Shirley Hoemann. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Edward Hoch; sisters Irma Kampschroeder and Arline Brandt; brothers-in-law Norvin Kampschroeder, Clinton Brandt, Eldore Hoemann, Peter Darrah; sisters-in-law Virginia Hoch, Vi Kampschroeder and Eileen Darrah; and nephews Karl Kampschroeder and Dennis Brandt. Nelda spent most of her life in Maplewood, MO, where she and her husband took part in many civic activities. A member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Maplewood since the 1950s, she participated in numerous programs including YMPS and Women's Guild. She was an active leader in the MRH American Legion #103, receiving the Missouri Department Unit Member of the Year award in 2001, and was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary #3500, Richmond Heights.She and her husband delivered Meals on Wheels and actively promoted American Legion programs in Maplewood Schools. After her retirement as a file clerk at Brown Group in Clayton, friends said they needed help finding good tours for seniors. She organized the "Sunshine Club" and coordinated trips for more than two decades, traveling throughout most of the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii. Nelda and Ivo also became regulars each fall at Edisto Island, South Carolina. Best described as a "people person," Nelda was happiest when there was a gathering of friends and relatives enjoying each other's company. Interment will be in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 26 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Jay B. Smith Maplewood Chapel, 7456 Manchester Rd., Maplewood, MO with services at the chapel at 5 pm.
