Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Matthew (Matt) Alan Disterhoft on March 2, 2024, at the age of 65. Born on October 3, 1958, in Geneseo, IL, Matt made sure every moment was as flavorful as his famous homemade jam. Matt leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a treasure trove of dad jokes that could make even the sternest of faces crack a smile. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joy, and their child, Jovie, as well as children, Katie (Ryan) and Haley from his previous marriage to Laura. His siblings, Patrick (Danelle), Donald (Betty), Greg, and Mark, also survive him, each with their own collection of "Matt-isms." He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Evelyn, and his brother, Michael. Matt spent the majority of his career as a Client Systems Manager at IBM. He retired in 2015 to focus on his family, particularly to help with care for his youngest daughter, Jovie. Matt earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 1981. Matt had many talents and interests - he was a passionate Bears and Cubs fan, an avid gardener, an accomplished home-chef, a devoted Christian, and a music enthusiast who loved to attend concerts of his favorite blues, classic rock, and Christian musicians. The family invites you to join them in a celebration of Matt's life on Saturday, March 16th, from 1:30-4:30 pm at Jay B. Smith Funeral Home in Fenton, MO. There will also be a mass service at 10 am on March 16th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Valley Park, MO that all are welcome to attend. Flowers are appreciated, or donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Valley Park, MO, in memory of Matt. Matt will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
