Margaret "Maggie" Mary Stubblefield, age 88 of St. Louis, Missouri passed away on Tuesday July 30, 2024. Maggie, one of twelve children, was born in Starlight, Indiana on January 12, 1936, to William and Elizabeth (Book) Boesing. Maggie was an accomplished student at Providence High School and St. Anthony's Hospital School of Nursing. Maggie served as a nurse for several decades in Germany, Louisville, Kentucky and St. Louis, Missouri. She volunteered much time to assisting those in need, especially many immigrants that came to the St. Louis area. She frequently befriended individuals and families that were lonely and in need of a friend. Maggie loved people but also the desolate dogs and cats that crossed her path. She adopted cats and dogs alike and dedicated her heart and time to caring for those who required special attention. She even adopted a stray cat Tofi from Mexico that she cared for and brought home to St. Louis. Her pet adoptions included cats: Jessie, Tofi, Kaya and Mittens. Her dogs included: Aleyeska, Logan, Sandy, Skate, Natasha, Fecha and Annabelle. Maggie also known as Mamá Maggie by her grandchildren was an incredible woman of faith. She dedicated her life to prayer, bible study and serving her family, friends and also the pets that she met along her journey. She imparted a strong faith and prayer life to her children, grandchildren and even the future great grandchildren. As a teenager Maggie had polio but you would never know it by her many hobbies. Her hobbies included reading, biking, hiking, nature, gardening, tennis, caring for the environment, crossword puzzles, an interest in local politics, archeology, and learning languages and other cultures. But her favorite hobby was Scrabble. She enjoyed many days playing Scrabble even up to the last months with her Brentwood Scrabble club: Sally, Deni and Wilma and others. Mamá Maggie is survived by her children, David (Alejandra), Cressid (Ken) and Adrian (Sandra); siblings, Colette Zumstein and Marty Renn (Elmer); grandchildren Karla (Jesus), Alex (Megan), Christian, Sam, Joe, Aaron, Maleah, Julen (Paula) and Akavahe ; two future great grandchildren that will be born this winter and many nieces and nephews. Mamá Maggie we all love you and will miss you deeply. Below is a a letter to Mama Maggie from her future grandson via his mom Karla. Dear Mama Maggie, Though we never met in this world, I'll miss you. We've shared moments in the many dreams you had of me, when you found out that I was growing in my mom's tummy. You knew from the beginning I was a boy. Even when all the superstitions said I was girl. My momma often writes me letters, and you appear in many of them. I can sense her sadness now that you're no longer with us. You meant so much to her. Your love, legacy, and memories will continue to live on within our family and everyone who knew you. I look forward to tasting your famous pie crust when Mama Ale brings out your recipe and hearing your morbid humor through Papa David. The love for the outdoors will live on when I go hiking or camping with my uncles Alex and Christian. I promise to learn both English and Spanish so I can listen to the funny, broken conversations you had when playing Scrabble with my dad Jesus. I'll make sure to learn how to play and keep your memory alive by making everyone play a game of Scrabble during our family gatherings. I'll see your compassion for animals through my mom. As you know, she found a stray dog in Mexico during our recent trip. Her name is Frida. She's making St. Louis her home with Aunt Viri and Uncle Kerry. Even Frida has felt your love because of the kindness you exhibited. Everyone jokes that my mom is just like you, finding stray animals and taking them in. I can't wait to hear all the stories that everyone shares about you and can't wait to experience the gifts you left all of us. Though you are physically not here, I know your spirit is. I'll be blessed to know you through those who knew you. You'll be my angel in all my future adventures, just like you were in all the ones you shared with all those many that you loved and those that loved you. Love you, Mama Maggie!
