Leslie Wayne Hughs, 69, of Fenton, Missouri, passed away on September 19, 2024, due to complications from diabetes. Les was born on March 6, 1955, in Wichita, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lolan D. and Alene V. Hughs. He is survived by his wife, Donna, his son, Alec D. Hughs (Damian Lara) and his daughter, Shelby L. Hughs. He is also survived by sister, Lavonda Chesmore, sister- and brother-in laws, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Les married Donna Krumme in July 1978 and they began their life together in Emporia, Kansas before moving to Derby, Kansas and then to Fenton, Missouri. Les began his career doing residential HVAC and electrical wiring for small businesses in Kansas. Before leaving Kansas, he accepted a position as a mechanical HVAC and controls engineer with one of the largest, global, engineering firms. This advance in his career led Les and his family to St. Louis where he built his reputation as a skilled project manager. In his Project Management role, Les led several multi-million dollar jobs, including several large projects for school districts in the Kansas City area. He retired after a 49-year career to spend more time with family and friends. In retirement, Les enjoyed the simple moments, like sipping coffee on the deck and smoking meats for family dinners. More than anything, Les loved his family and would do anything to provide for and protect them. He was passionate in all of his endeavors, and enjoyed tackling projects of all kinds. He was always the guy to go to for help solving any type of problem - and he was always eager to lend a helping hand. Les was a skilled craftsman and woodworker, building beautiful mission style furniture and other wood projects for family and friends. He loved building models, such as Lego Creator Expert and aircraft models. Les also loved spending time in his garden tending to his plants, watching the STL Cardinals and STL Blues. Whenever possible, Les loved to explore new places with friends and family. Recently, Les was able to check off an item on his bucket list - Pearl Harbor. Because of his hard work, Les was awarded incredible vacations out of the country however, the vacation he loved the most was an annual trip with his wife, to meet up with close friends in Branson, MO. Les was the kind of person who could become best friends with anyone. He cared about people and doing the right thing. Les will be remembered by his family and many friends as a honest and good, God-loving, hard-working, and get things done man.
