Obituary

Leonard was born on Thursday August 2nd, 1945 in Wellston Missouri to the union of Orville and Irene Maierhoffer (nee Seale). He suddenly passed from this mortal realm into God's care on Saturday September 1, 2018 having graced our presence for 73 years, 4 weeks and 2 days. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Joan Maierhoffer (nee Bertke); his children, John Maierhoffer and his girlfriend Elizabeth Lawrence, daughter-in-law Connie, the widow of his late son Ron, and Phil Maierhoffer and Phil's wife Melinda. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ron Jr., Samantha, Michael and Cody. His great-grandchildren Riley, Lilly and Hazel and his sisters, Patricia Hunter and Lynda Heald. Leonard graduated from Mt. Vernon Ill. High School in 1963. He served his country by entering the U.S. Army on November 24, 1965 and served in the Artillery. He served for 1 year, 11 months and 29 days, of that 11 months and 19 days were spent in Vietnam for which he received a Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, an Overseas Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged from active duty on November 22, 1967. He is a Life Member of the V.F.W. belonging to Post 2866 in St. Charles. He also belongs to the American Legion, Post 111 of Shrewsbury. Besides volunteering his time to these two organizations he also volunteered at functions ay St. James the Greater Catholic Church. His hobbies included metal detecting, hunting and fishing and taking care of his dog, Tina.
