Leila Ann McKinnon, born September 29, 1942, to Clarence and Mary Jane Kammerer, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025. Leila began her career as a police dispatcher and later served as a court clerk for the City of Clayton. She eventually retired from Emerson Electric, as a personnel director, after a long and dedicated career. Beyond her professional life, Leila was an avid reader with a deep love for science fiction. She found great joy in the worlds of Star Wars and Star Trek and often shared her enthusiasm with family and friends. Her affection for cats was well known, and she cherished their companionship throughout her life. Leila was a graduate of Webster University. She also devoted much of her time to volunteering with numerous organizations, always seeking to give back to her community and make a difference in the lives of others. She will be remembered for her intelligence, kindness, and generosity of spirit. Leila was preceded in death by her parents and the love of her life, Ralph McKinnon. She is survived by two daughters, Shannon Bappert (Jerry) of St. Charles and Kelly Schlereth of Ferguson; four grandchildren, Amanda Bappert, Matthew Bappert (Ladda), Hallie Schlereth and Hayden Schlereth; two brothers, Mumtaz Bill Kammerer (Richard Messick) and Clarence "Kam" Kammerer (Bill Dill); stepmother, Rosemary Kammerer; three stepsisters, Rebecca Lawson, Cindy Covington and Suzy Lawson; and several other relatives and dear friends, Lori Phelan and Jan Riley. A memorial visitation will take place on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 12-1PM at Jay B. Smith Funeral Home in Maplewood, 7456 Manchester Ave. Maplewood Mo. 63143 with a graveside service to be held at 2PM at Lakewood Park Cemetery, 7330 Mackenzie Road Saint Louis, MO 63123.
