Obituary

Larry Eaves, better known by all as "Big Lar," was born on November 3, 1939 in St. Louis, MO and he passed away on August 16, 2025, also in St. Louis. He grew up in St. Louis city but spent the last 52 years of his life in Fenton, MO. He attended Roosevelt High School in St. Louis city. He then joined the Army where he served from 1956 - 1959 . He started his career in the Ozarks at The Lodge of the Four Season as the Convention Manager. It was there he met and married his wife, Linda. Upon them returning to St. Louis he worked at The Chase Park Plaza. He dabbled in a few other businesses but spent most of his adult life working in the used car business either wholesaling, selling or managing. Anyone who knew Big Lar knew his favorite thing to do in life, besides spending time with his family, was to cook. He tried his hand at opening a few restaurants, but in more recent years he was a soup chef for his favorite local pub - Truman's Place. He could always be found whipping something up in his own kitchen. He made everything from scratch, rarely followed a recipe and went grocery shopping almost every single day. He did 98% of the cooking for our family growing up and it drove him crazy that everyone unanimously agreed that our mom's chili mac was far better than his. In addition, his favorite thing to do on a Saturday or Sunday was sit by his pool with a meat of his choice on the grill and listen to a Cardinal's game. Add some kids or grandkids swimming in his pool to the mix and that would probably be his perfect day. If it was too cold to be outside, he simply substituted the baseball for football and the pork steaks for a pot of chili. He loved a good all-you-can-eat crab leg buffet, watching a NCIS marathon, listening to oldies, and hitting local food festivals. His favorite dessert was apple pie, he loved his prime rib as rare as they would cook it, "The Godfather" was his favorite movie and he loved a gin martini or an ice cold Budweiser. He was a practical joker and was constantly playing tricks on friends and family. Bigger than Larry's love for all the above, though, was his love for his family. He was married for almost 50 years and when his wife became ill, he devoted his life to caring for her until she passed in 2017. He loved his kids and grandkids, and he would never turn down an opportunity to spend time with them. Second to the love for his family was his love for his dogs. Most recently, he had a German Shepherd named Gitta who he adored. She provided him companionship and kept him company as he was spending more time at home. He loved to tell stories about her to anyone who would listen. This man was loved by all who met him and the world lost one of the good ones when he left us. We will forever miss him and hold him close to our hearts.
