Obituary

With great sadness, our family would like to announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Julie Dubrouillet, who left us peacefully on February 6, 2025 in the early hours of the morning. Her daughter was by her side, holding her hand as she left this earthly world two days shy of her 74th birthday. As a single mother and divorcee in the early 1970s, Julie worked hard to provide a good life for her daughter. She loved going to festivals, the ballet, the theatre, Soulard Market and watching Cardinals baseball games - all with her daughter. Her career changed, and she was eager to pursue her love of travel. Her daughter accompanied her on many of these travels. Her favorite place to visit was Destin, Florida. The duo also visited Cancun, Mexico, Victoria Island, Colonial Williamsburg, Paris, France, London, UK, Hilton Head Island, Alaska via an Alaskan Cruise, and many other places within the United States. Julie loved being a grandmother more than anything. She was present for both births of her grandchildren and loved going with them to visit local attractions such as the St. Louis Zoo, the Museum of Transportation, and the Science Center. While she initially wanted to be called "Grandma", her first grandchild could only manage to say Meemaw. Meemaw she became, and later in her life she would correct anyone who called her "Grandma." She instilled a love of art in her granddaughter by taking her to the art museum at a very young age and teaching her how to batik on silk in the basement studio. She instilled a love of books in her grandson who loved when Meemaw would read to him. Julie was preceded in death by her parents Herbert Dubrouillet and Agnes (Mager) Dubrouillet, her dear sister Jeannette (Dubrouillet) Lohman and brother-in-law Richard Lohman, and her niece, Laura (Lohman) Padolik. We take great comfort in knowing a happy reunion took place in Heaven. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Michele M. Dubrouillet, and her two grandchildren, Adriana C. Rittgers and Nolan D. Rittgers. She is also survived by her two brothers John (Rose) Dubrouillet, Michael (Jill) Dubrouillet, and many nieces, nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. While her passing leaves us with great sorrow, we are comforted that she is no longer in pain and no longer suffering from the dementia that had been a constant in her life for the past 5 years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Julie's name to the Dementia Society of America. https://www.dementiasociety.org
