John E. Titus (Coach) John Titus, 92 went to be with the Lord on 7/9/2023, at The Austin House,Lutz, Florida. Born March 6, 1931 in Kansas City, MO, to the late Buford and Levina Titus (nee Wiggs), he was the loving husband of the late Priscilla Titus (nee Wilson) for 52 years; Father of Michael (Shelly) Titus and the late Carrie (David) Voegtli; Grandfather of Sara Crawley, Victoria (Patrick) Carney, and Estephania Titus, Matthew (Stephanie) Voegtli, Andrew Voegtli, Jonathon (Veronica) Voegtli, and Adam Voegtli; Great-grandfather of Lukas Carney, Chloe Voegtli, Joshua and Isabelle Voegtli, dear brother-in-law, uncle and friend of many. He was also preceded in death by his three brothers Buford (Clarice), Bruce, and Dan (Mary) Titus. John's family moved to Raytown where he attended Raytown Elementary School. Growing up with three brothers, athletic pursuits were a main stay. They played ping pong on the dining room table and practiced pole vaulting with tree limbs and simply fell on the ground. John graduated from Raytown High School in 1949. He was a football and track athlete winning the Corcangas Trophy for Best All-Around Athlete. John attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg from 1950 – 1955 earning a BS in Education in Biology and later attended Washington University earning a MS in Education in Physical Education. He lettered in football all 4 years, was a MIAA Champion in indoor and outdoor track and represented Missouri in the first NAIA National Championships in 1952. After graduating, John was drafted and served 2 years in the U.S. Army with the Corps of Engineers out of Granite City, Illinois. He taught 3 years at Warrensburg High School, and one fine day during that time, he met his wife, Priscilla in the grocery store with her twin sister. They were married on February 13, 1958. After moving to St. Louis, He and Priscilla were blessed with two children, Michael and Carrie. He continued his career at Brentwood High School, and served as the head football coach for 16 years and as athletic director for the remainder of his career. He was also the head track coach for 31 years, the head baseball coach for a year, the head cross country coach for five years, and an assistant basketball coach. John also helped coordinate the Title IX and handicapped programs for the school district. John's life impacted many! His teams and athletes fared well under his tutelage. He had four undefeated football teams, including a 27-game win streak, and a state championship. In track, his teams won 10 district, 4 indoor, and 4 outdoor championships. John coached 25 individual state champions and 11 relay state champions. The Brentwood Track is named for him. John retired in 1990 after serving for 35 years. John served as a Sunday school teacher and in many positions at Maplewood Baptist Church. He enjoyed restoring antique furniture and playing tennis. John was a good dancer and a few years after Priscilla passed, he and his dear friend Lil Hoven shared lots of good times dancing. In 2016 John moved to Aberdeen Heights in Kirkwood, Missouri and made many new friends. Services: Visitation Sunday, July 23, 2023 4:00-8:00 PM. Open Microphone from 7:00-8:00P.M. Jay B.
