James Rankin Jr. was called home to heaven and his Savior on May 6, 2016. He was born February 19, 1921 in Gillespie, Illinois to James Rankin Sr. and Charlotte Muir Rankin. He grew up in a Christian home, and made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 14. After graduating from Gillespie High School in 1939, he moved to Saint Louis, Missouri and attended Business College. He left the Business College after 6 months upon receiving a job with Merchants Refrigeration Company. Later he moved on to work for Standard Neon Sign Company and it was through this work experience that he gained the opportunity to go into business for himself. He started Process Supply Company, a silk screen supply business, in 1959 and grew the business over a 29 year span as owner and president from a one man shop to employing 10. On June 27, 1952 he married Lillian Naomi Baird in Saint Louis, Missouri. They lived in Saint Louis City for 14 years and then Sappington, Missouri 39 years. They were happily married for over 56 years and raised two daughters and two sons. Upon Lillian developing Alzheimer's, they moved into an independent living facility so that he could care for her. After her passing, he lived with his son Richard and wife Kim Rankin for 5 years, and then with his son Robert and wife Wendy for 2 years. A central focus of his life was service for his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He was in fellowship at Maplewood Bible Chapel for 65 years, and served as Sunday School teacher, Superintendent, Youth Group leader, Elder, Kids Club and AWANA leader and Commander for many years. He had a strong desire to reach children with the gospel of Jesus Christ, and it was his lifelong joy. He helped start Masokobi Bible Camp in 1949 and was involved in many different capacities for over 50 years at Masokobi and later DaySpring Bible Camp in Ironton, Missouri, as Camp Director, Speaker, Program Director, Board Member and Chairman of the Board. In all of these endeavors, he was a mentor and example to so many. He was preceded in death by his father in 1965, his mother in 1982, sister Mary in 1918, and sister Elizabeth in 2002. He is survived by his daughters Charlotte Christine and Steven Nienhuis of Holland, Michigan, Marian Elizabeth and Robert Schuessler of Saint Louis, Missouri, sons James Robert and Wendy Rankin of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Richard Andrew and Kim Rankin of Fenton, Missouri.
