James Edward Funke, born on September 9, 1942, lived a life defined by quiet devotion-to his country, his passions, and the creatures he cared for along the way. James, known to family and friends as Jimmy, enlisted in the U.S. Army at a young age in 1963, completing his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood before being stationed in Germany. Upon returning home, he built a career working at McDonnell Douglas and later at the Leppert Roos Fur Company. A true audiophile and lifelong music enthusiast, Jimmy's love of sound was inherited from his father and evident in the extensive music collection he curated over the years. That deep appreciation for music was rivaled only by his encyclopedic knowledge of classic Westerns on film and television-a genre he cherished. Jimmy had a gentle soul and a big heart, always extending kindness to every stray cat and dog that crossed his path. His empathy and quiet generosity left a lasting impression on those who knew him. He is survived by his three loving sisters. Visitation will be held from 11:30AM-12:30PM on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Jay B. Smith Funeral Home in Fenton. Graveside Services with military honors will be held at 1:30PM on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
