Obituary

DeLozier, Homer E. Reverend Dr. Homer E. DeLozier, age 101, of Richmond Heights, Mo., died on February 11, 2009, at The Baptist Home, Ironton. He was born November 5, 1907 in a sod house in Cimarron County, Oklahoma where his parents homesteaded. His childhood and youth were on a farm near Clinton, Missouri. Dr. DeLozier was a distinguished Baptist statesman, a faithful Christian minister and a loyal member of the Southwest Baptist Church, St.Louis. He graduated from the Central Baptist Seminary, William Jewell College, Southwest Baptist College and the Clinton, Missouri, High School. William Jewell College bestowed upon him the Honorary Doctorate. He was pastor of the Baptist Church in Quarlls, Chilhowee, Leeton, Lamar and Maplewood, Missouri. He served as Executive Director of the St.Louis Baptist Association, the local organization of Baptist Churches from 1955 to 1976 when he retired. He was an initiator and ardent supporter of the Missouri Baptist University. He was Board Member Emeritus of the Missouri Baptist Hospital and William Jewell College. He served on the Board of Directors of the Hannibal-LaGrange College, Southwest Baptist College and Central Baptist Seminary, Kansas City, Kansas. He served on the Executive Board and, also, as president of the Missouri Baptist Convention. He was married to Ferroll Woodford DeLozier who preceded him in death in 1993. He is survived by two daughters; Joann(David) Bunch of Smyrna, Georgia and Marilyn (Donald) Richter of Claremont, California; three grand children, Jeffrey (Terri) Bunch of Smyrna, Georgia, Javan Bunch of New York City and Blake Richter of Riverside, California; two great-grand daughters, Maria Ainsworth Bunch and Charlotte DeLozier Bunch of Smyrna, Georgia; and one sister, Mildred Marksberry of Clinton, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be sent to Missouri Baptist University, One College Park Drive, St.Louis, Missouri 63141 or to Southwest Baptist Church, 6401 Scanlon Ave., St.Louis, Missouri 63139. Funeral sevices will be held at the Southwest Baptist Church, St.Louis, on Tuesday, February 17, at 11:00a.m. with Dr. Rudy Pulido officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor on Monday 6:00-8:00p.m. and Tuesday at 10:00a.m. Private family burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
