Obituary

Herbert Ray Willard April 28, 1936 - January 26, 2018 Herbert Willard, son of Lilith and John D S Willard, was a graduate of West Plains High School, class of 1954. He was a member of the band, debate team, track team, class president in his sophomore, junior and senior years, and member of the Missouri State Youth Choir. He married Polly Ann Stultz of West Plains January 2, 1960. They had two daughters, Lisa and Gina. In 1988 he married Pat O'Laughlin Mills of St. Louis. On March 5th they would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Herb enjoyed being with people and was known for his welcoming smile. He especially liked small children and would happily do whatever they wanted for hours. He always wanted to be helpful and encouraging. He was a volunteer for St Louis County Older Resident Programs for 20 years. He was a long time member of Cornerstone Community Church of God in St Louis and Rock Hill Church of God. Herb loved music, sang in his church choirs, and played sousaphone, tuba, piano, and clawhammer style banjo. He also loved nature, walking his dog, drives in the country, canoeing and camping. He worked 35 years as a computer specialist for the federal government in St Louis. He is remembered by Pat, daughters Lisa Willard (son-in-law Bhasker Shetty, grandson Sanjay Shetty), and Gina Willard, sisters Ethel Willard, Lola Bixler (brother-in-law Robert Bixler), Mary Ellen Downing, brother Ralph Willard, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by brothers James Eldean Willard and Elbert Willard, sister Etta Ruth Johnston, and brother-in-law Bob Downing. Services Saturday, February 3 9:45 Interment, Jefferson Barracks. Please meet in the parking lot behind the office. 10:30 Visit with friends and family at Cornerstone Community Church of God, 2833 Telegraph Road, St Louis, MO 63125 12:00 noon Memorial Service at the church followed by lunch.
