Helen Catherine Jaegers, nee Krivi Born November 13, 1921 – died September 23, 2017 Born and raised in Mt. Olive, IL , daughter of George Krivi, a Slovak immigrant coal miner from pre-WW I Austria-Hungary, and his wife, Barbara Grega, also from Austria-Hungary. Helen grew up during the Depression, one of 12 children (none of whom survive her) and was semi-orphaned when her father was killed in a coal mine explosion when she was 10 years old. During the WW II era, she moved to St. Louis for work and was a bookkeeper at Ralston Purina and active member of the St. Louis Cathedral Club. She used to love dancing and met her husband, Tony Jaegers (died 2009), at one of those events, marrying on October 25, 1952 in Mt. Olive. Together they lived in Richmond Heights for over 63 years in the house that Tony built, raising their family of three daughters. She was a devout Catholic and devoted member of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, an enthusiastic Cardinals baseball fan, loved to bake and always kept a well-stocked pantry of canned fruit and vegetables from the home garden. Helen is survived by her three daughters: Kathy Roth (Philip Roth) of Lafayette, CO; Donna Jaegers of Seattle, WA and Deborah Jaegers of St. Louis, MO; three grandchildren – Timothy Roth (Jamie Roth) of Lafayette, CO; Benjamin Roth (Lucy Rosenburgh) of Cambridge, MA and Jen Roth (Craig Glaser) of Astoria, NY; two great-granddaughters – Avery and Brynn Roth of Lafayette, CO; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, October 1st from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at Jay B Smith Funeral Home, Maplewood, MO. Funeral mass Monday, October 2nd, 11:00 am at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church with a 10:30 am Rosary,7230 Dale Ave @ Bellevue Ave. in Richmond Heights, MO with interment at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery. The family requests no flowers, please, and any memorials may be made to St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church.
