After his discharge he returned to St. Louis and married Marie Griffin, and they had 3 beautiful children. In 1985 he met the Love of his Life, Mary Ann. He Proudly belonged to Local 38N GCIU. He was a Proud member until the day he died. Upon retirement, Doug & Mary Ann traveled, seeing many historical sites. They also enjoyed going to see Cardinals at Spring training in Florida. They had a wonderful time seeing new places and meeting new people along the way. When Doug had free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and was on many bowling leagues. He also enjoyed the occasional round of golf time with his brother and brother-in-law. He was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball. He was always telling "Dad jokes", never going past a cemetery without making the statement, "People are just dying to get in there", always teasing and having fun with the grandchildren. Doug never met a stranger, and he enjoyed having "A FEW COLD ONES" and talking with friends. Doug has been a grateful member of the American Legion Post 400 in Fenton, for over 20 years.
