Evangeline Dorothea Genevieve (Penny) Browne August 9, 1926 to December 5, 2024 Penny passed away peacefully at her farm in Robertsville, Missouri at the age of 98. She was pre-deceased by her husband Perry Neal, son James Douglas Browne and daughter Linda Carol Vedenhaupt (Bill). She is survived by her sister Jenny Hajek of Steelville, Missouri, children Jonathan (Lisa), David and Susan Hoyt (Larry), grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a life-long St. Louis metro resident. Her childhood began in South St. Louis and later Jennings, before marrying in 1951. Moving to Fenton in 1965 to be near Neal's family grocery business, she raised five children and oversaw the care of Whitegate farm. They later moved to a larger farm in Robertsville in 1986 and spent the rest of her life enjoying family, friends and the peace of farm life. A child of German immigrants, Arthur Conrad Barkey and Katherine Elizabeth Feick, Penny was one of eleven children. The loss of her mother before the age of ten and her father at age twenty meant siblings played a major role in her upbringing. Sports were a favorite in high school and Penny remained physically active late into life. Always competitive, winning at Dominos became her goal when mobility decreased. She enjoyed the beauty of the farm, bird watching and visits from her children and family friends. She especially loved babies; nothing pleased her more than to see and hold young children. A faithful Christian, she taught child and adult Bible classes for many years at Fenton Baptist Church, maintaining contact with members up until her death. She remained mentally sharp all her life, continuing to read and staying up on current events. Her travel was limited by her own preference to stay where she was familiar and comfortable. Through the help of family, friends, Hospice and the grace of God, our loving mother was granted her final wish as she drew her last breath at home, and her first in heaven.
