Obituary

Errol "Vernon" Adams, born October 31, 1940, to Harvey and Eula Adams, went home to be with the Lord on February 3, 2024. He will always be remembered for his dedication to hard work and ingenuity. Throughout his whole life, Vern placed a high value on education, which led to him helping to start a technical school in Memphis. He also appreciated travel and, using his mechanical expertise, he built a 37 ft. steel catamaran to sail to the Caribbean and beyond. He was strong-willed, but he also had a generous heart, and was full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences: auto and marine mechanic, business owner, pilot, fisherman, chess fanatic, scuba diver, motorcycle enthusiast, instructor, inventor - he could fix or build anything. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Maureen and Eileen, two brothers, Allen and Roger and step-son, Mike Fortenberry. He is survived by his children, Dan (Tina) Adams, Gary (Michelle) Adams, Matthew (Michelle) Adams, and Denise (Ernie) Brockman, nephews, Mike (late Laura) Adams, Phil (Sandy) Adams, and Tom (Cherie) Adams, step-daughter, Mandy Scharf (Douglas), as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-nephews and great-nieces, all of whom he was very proud. A visitation will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 10:30 am at Jay B. Smith Fenton Chapel, followed by a service at 12:30.
