Smith with burial at Resurrection Cemetery Ernest, a WWII veteran was born and raised near Pleasant Hill, Il, the youngest of five children. It was during that time he found a passion for small game hunting, and recreational fishing. He was drafted in 1943 to serve the US Navy and toured to France, Italy and the Mediterranean area, as he served on the LST603 until honorable discharge in 1946. Looking for work after the military he moved to St Louis, Mo, eventually meeting and marrying the love of his life for the next 67 years and raised his family of four. Ernie, as his family and friends called him, secured his career at General Motors Auto Assembly Plan in St Louis and retired there. After retirement he pursued many hobbies, some of which he most enjoyed were fishing, hunting his own land in Illinois, personal computers as they evolved in the home, ham radio operating, hobby rabbit competition, home remodeling, lively discussions, and lately remembering and documenting his past time in the Navy. Ernie was known to all who knew him as one devoted to his family and one who thoroughly enjoyed making others laugh by his jokes and good fun pranks.
