Edward A. Van de Riet, age 75, passed away on December 17, 2025. He was born on March 9, 1950, and was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John J. and Olga Van de Riet.

Ed was the devoted and loving husband of Mary Margaret (Hainen) Van de Riet, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. He was an amazing and proud father to Sarah (Wayne) Scott, Joseph (Melissa) Van de Riet, and Arthur (Tara) Van de Riet. He was a cherished grandfather to Logan, Dominic, Michael, Jacob, Nolan, and Matthew, who loved him immensely and will forever miss their "Tappy," who brought them laughter, comfort, and unconditional love.

Ed was the second youngest of nine children-John (Betty), Olga (Art and Joe), Mary Lou, Richard (Jean), Gloria (Mike), Ray (Barb), Larry (Barb), and Jim (Betty)-grew up surrounded by family, a value that remained central throughout his life. He was a proud graduate of St. Mary's High School and went on to serve his country honorably as a United States Air Force veteran, a role he held with great pride.

Ed was a hard worker all his life, whether it was providing for his family, making sure everyone got to sports practices and activities, or simply being there whenever he was needed. He loved spending time at home watching the History Channel and enjoying the simple routines of daily life.

Those who knew Ed will remember his humor, playful teasing, infectious laugh, and warm smile. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be held from 4-8PM on December 30, 2025, at Jay B. Smith Funeral Home in Fenton. Mass will be held on December 31, 2025 at 10AM at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Fenton will full military honors.
