This obituary is a service of memory celebrating the life of Mrs. Edna Lavern Martin, married to the belated Mr. Arnold G. Martin of 25 years, until his death in 1998. Mrs. Edna Lavern Martin, 1055 Dutch Mill Drive, aged 74, expired on Friday, October 6 of the year 2023 at the Town and Country Health and Rehabilitation Facility in Town and Country, Missouri. A wake and a funeral service will be held at the Jay B. Smith Funeral Home on the days of October 20 and October 21 of the year 2023, respectively. The wake will be held on October 20, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on October 21, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. There will be a gravesite burial service on October 21, 2023 following the, afore mentioned, funeral service. The gravesite burial will be held at the Laurel Hill Cemetary at 11:30 a.m. in the approximation. Mrs. Edna Martin was born on May 10, 1949 to the late Mr. Bremon Jones and Mrs. Rachel Jones in Shannon, Mississippi. She has been a resident of St. Louis, Missouri since the completion of her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education: Business awarded from Lane College in Jackson, TN. From which purpose as to receive her undergraduate degree, she went on to receive a Master of Arts Degree in Education: Counseling at the University of Missouri – St. Louis. These degrees allowed for the completion of her career given to her by the Lord God Almighty in teaching to be fulfilled until her retirement. Mrs. Edna Martin grew up in a memoir of St. Jonh Missionary Baptist Church of Shannon, Mississippi and, later, joined the Washington Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church of St. Louis, Missouri, where her husband served as a deacon and her daughter, Rachel Kathleen Martin, served as an usher. She also resides in the hearts of the following loved ones: Mr. Marion Turner Jones of Jackson, TN (brother), Mrs. Mallie Nunn of Flint, MI (sister: deceased), Andrea Gail Martin of St. Louis, Missouri (step- daughter), Natalie Lynn Martin (step-daughter) of Antioch, TN, William Arnold Martin of Ballwin, MO (step-son: deceased), Ericka Antoinette Nunn of Beaver Creek, OH (niece), Ayanna Rachelle Nunn of Jackson, TN (niece), Jonathan Nunn of Cleveland, OH (nephew), Bobby Ray Patterson of Chesterfield, MO ("bro"), Mrs. Synobia Gray of St. Louis, Missouri (aunt), Mrs. Evelyn Spencer of St. Louis, MO (aunt), the entire "Houston" family of Pontotoc, MS, and a host of other family, friends/ "cousins". She received an accolade in her career as - "Counselor of the Year" - for helping many students obtain college scholarships. This was dutifully noted in a local periodical. Her generous spirit and love entrusted to many shall be missed and, sorrowfully, woed, but celebrated, in reflection.
