Born in the family farmhouse near Shattuc, Il , Dorothy was the youngest daughter of Bertha (Bauer) and Charles Schlictman and dear sister to Kathryn Davis, and brothers Warren and Roy Schlictman who precede her death.
Dorothy graduated from McKinley High School in St Louis, Mo and later married Ernest Autery of Nebo Illinois on May 1, 1948. They met at the roller rink in St. Louis and in Dorothy's words "We have been going around and around ever since."
Dorothy had a keen wit and a quick smile for everybody.
Dorothy and Ernest soon after started their family in Maplewood, Mo and lived on the same block of Flora Ave. for 76 years. After family first, she loved her pet dog Sophie, flower gardening, music, shopping, homemaking and family gatherings. She was a dedicated Catholic attending Immaculate Conception Church in Maplewood and later St Mary Magdeline Church in Brentwood.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her Husband Ernest, and daughter Linda and her husband Larry Damouth. She is survived by her devoted children, Deborah Metcalf of St Louis, James (Cathy) Autery of Imperial, Mo and Kathleen (Wes) of Hillsboro, Mo. As a lover of children, she particularly enjoyed the company of her grandchildren Scott and Jeff Autery, Nicole and Dan Abernathy, Jason Hadley, James McClellan and 9 great grandchildren who knew her fondly as "Grandma Dot."
