Donald Evans was born on September 14, 1924, near Los Angeles. He departed this life on Monday, February 13, in Chesterfield, MO. Donald and Doris moved to Friendship Village in Chesterfield, MO in 2014 to be near their daughter Laura. They enjoyed living there and Donald spent his final several months in the skilled nursing facility where he was well cared for. His family was poor but loving. His sister, Evelyn was five years older. They lived near many aunts, uncles and cousins, so Donald had numerous playmates. He was always interested in radio and a neighbor helped him make his own crystal set. He advanced from there to become a ham radio operator. He went shore fishing with his father when there was enough gas in the car. Fishing and radio were his primary interests throughout his boyhood. World War II began before he graduated from high school and he was drafted into the navy. He became a radio operator stationed in the Marshal Islands, in the Pacific. Fortunately, he never saw combat. He was able to spend time on the water while serving as a radio operator. His time in the service provided good memories. When he returned home after the war, he met Doris Dyck at a church youth group in Southern California and they married on February 2, 1951. They had four children. The first, Stevie, died at two years old from leukemia, a devastating blow to both parents. Three more children were born: Robert, James, and Laura. Robert and Laura, still living, are a blessing to both parents. Donald worked for many years at McDonnell Douglas Aerospace Company in Long Beach, California as an electronics technician. Their Christian faith has always been the foundation of their lives. Donald is survived by his wife of 71 years, Doris, his son Robert (wife, Phyllis) of Mill Valley, CA, Daughter Laura (husband, Father Daniel Morton) of St. Louis. There are five grandchildren: Daniel, Joel (predeceased), April, Abigail and Jesse, and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Theodore.
