Donald Paul Drews, beloved husband, father and brother, passed away on Monday December 8 at the age of 75. Donald is survived by his wife Lucy, daughter Melanie and son-in-law Jason, sister Doris and brothers Charles and Edward. Don was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 3, 1939 to Helen and Paul Drews. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1957, then enlisted in the US Air Force at age 18. Don was stationed in Hawaii, Guam, Germany, California, and Colorado before retiring from the USAF in 1967. Don and Lucy were married in May 1969 and lived in Grand Rapids, Cincinnati and Los Angeles before settling in Chicago, where Donald worked in personal insurance for 25 years. Their daughter Melanie was born in 1978. In 2001, the family relocated to St. Louis where Donald retired from Reliable Insurance in 2002. Don enjoyed reading, camping, puzzles of all kinds, gardening and classical music. He was an avid supporter of the St. Louis Symphony and other St. Louis arts organizations. During his retirement, Don stayed active in the community by volunteering with local charities. He was devoted to his family and will be greatly missed. A viewing and brief service will be held at Jay B. Smith Funeral Home Fenton Chapel 777 Oakwood Dr. on Friday, December 12 between 2 pm and 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Doctors without Borders or the St. Louis Symphony
