David Wayne Green, a proud Navy veteran, beloved family member and dear friend to many, passed away on July 21, 2025 Although born in Southern California, David spent much of his youth in West Plains, Missouri, where he lived with his grandparents alongside a large, loving extended family of aunts and uncles. He served his country with honor in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star. His service experience remained a point of deep pride throughout his life. After his service, David settled in St. Louis, Missouri, where he worked as an independent contractor, pursued and accomplished his dream of owning a sports bar and grill, and among other things, found meaning in his role maintaining the beauty of Tower Grove Park. David had a big personality and a magnetic sense of humor. He could entertain a crowd with his voice impressions and endless jokes, and he never turned down a chance to make someone laugh. A passionate St. Louis sports fan and an enthusiastic golfer, David found joy in simple pleasures, whether cheering on the Cardinals, visiting with his friends at a local hang out, or enjoying a quiet afternoon on the green. He had a special love for animals, kids, and a deep, unwavering pride in his son, John David Cole. David was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Elizabeth Andrews (née Wheat); his father, Irving Clarence Green; and his two younger brothers, Randy Lee Green and Michael Irving Green. He is survived by his son, John David Cole, and John's wife Christine Cole; his sister, Susan Andrews Salzman, and her husband William Raymond Salzman; and two loving nieces, and cousins who will all remember his feisty spirit and mischievous grin. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, from 10:00AM-11:45AM at Jay B. Smith Funeral Home in Fenton, Missouri. Funeral Services will begin at 11:45AM at the funeral home.
