It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Darlis A. (Alsup) Childrey, who peacefully left us on January 27, 2025, just three months shy of her 95th birthday. She was surrounded by family and love. Darlis was the embodiment of unconditional love, unwavering support, remarkable strength, boundless compassion, and unselfish generosity. Her kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. She was a pioneer of her time. Especially regarding social norms for young women of her day. She left her small town in Tennessee for the city of St. Louis, getting a job at a hardware store, and starting out her adult life with independence, true grit, and determination. Darlis was living life in the big city, and during a visit back home, she reconnected with her future husband, and the rest is history. After marrying, Darlis and Sidney settled in St. Louis to start their family. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with family. She made it known that her greatest achievements were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her favorite way to spend time with her large family were game nights. Everything from Rook to Backgammon. She held her cards close and taught us how to be good winners and good losers. Darlis' other great love in her life, was God. Darlis was a devoted Christian, attending church multiple times a week for the majority of her life. She loved building relationships within her church and many fellow patrons have since become family. Darlis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Warren Sidney Childrey, her son Phillip Childrey, her parents, Aubrey and Olis Alsup, and her dear siblings Aubrey Lee Alsup, Peggy Dennison and Johnny Alsup. We take comfort in knowing that they were waiting for her with open arms in Heaven, ready to embrace her once more. She is survived by her devoted children: Jeffrey Childrey, Theresa (Chris) Gabel, Amy Childrey, Jacqueline McBroom, and Janet (Greg) Bast; her cherished grandchildren: Eric (Nancy) Childrey, Jennifer Childrey, Vanessa Hamblen, Amy Childrey, David Childrey, Amanda (Justin) Pratt, Jeremy Bast, and Brian Bast; and her adored great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Childrey, Katherine Childrey, Lillian Pratt, Kaetlyn Duke, Leo Duke, Ethan Lloyd, Olivia Lloyd, and Alexander Lloyd. Though her passing leaves an irreplaceable void in our hearts, we take solace in the love and wisdom she shared with us all. Her spirit will live on in the stories we tell, the memories we hold, and the love we pass down through the generations. Darlis will forever remain with us, as a part of us all. NO FLOWERS PLEASE AS MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY ARE ALLERGIC TO FLOWERS In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Darlis' name to either the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Association.
