Daniel Louis O'Connor

Daniel "Danny" O'Connor, age 78, of St. Louis, Missouri passed away on September 28, 2026, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Danny was born in Richmond Heights, Missouri on March 3, 1948, to Thomas and Mary Jane (nee Blatterman) O'Connor. He was the third of eight children. After graduating from Mercy High School, he joined the Air Force where he served for five years including tours of duty in Vietnam and London. After his military service concluded, he spent 30 years as a mailman in Richmond Heights, MO where he was well-known and popular throughout the neighborhood. Danny was an active participant and volunteer in the local VFW serving on the ceremonial color guard. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, skiing, traveling, bowling, riding his motorcycle, spending time with his large family and socializing with his many lifelong friends. He was the favorite 'fun' uncle and will be missed by all who knew and loved his kind and fun-loving spirit.

Danny is survived by his siblings Sara (Joseph) Nelson, Michael (Sule) O'Connor, Janet (Robert) Pasley, Mary Meyers, Thomas (Cheryl) O'Connor and Craighan (Elizabeth O'Connor) along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary Jane O'Connor, his sister Margaret (Peggy) O'Connor and his brother-in-law Jay Meyers.

The family would especially like to express our gratitude to all of the caregivers and health care workers who provided assistance and support to Danny throughout his illness.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday October 5, 2026, from 4:00pm - 8:00pm at Jay B, Smith Funeral Home, 7456 Manchester Road, Maplewood, MO. Memorial Service Tuesday October 6, 9:00 am at Jay B. Smith Funeral Home-Maplewood

A service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery will be held on Tuesday October 6, 2026, at 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Danny may be made to the Richmond Heights VFW Post 3500 or the Alzheimer's Association Greater Missouri Chapter.
