Obituary

Christine (Schroeppel) Guinan passed to the next life on October 3, 2025, at the age of 77, in her home in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, from complications of multiple strokes. Sadly, her physical and mental health had deteriorated over the preceding few years, and after two hospital emergencies and short nursing home stays in summer 2025 she chose to spend her remaining time at home on hospice. Born in East St. Louis, Illinois in 1948, Chris grew up in Collinsville, Illinois. She graduated from Collinsville High School in 1966. In 1973, she moved to St. Louis. When she married John Guinan in 1974, she moved to his home in Fenton, Missouri. The couple later moved to Clinton Township, Michigan for John's job with the UAW International Union, and in 2004 they retired in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Chris did various accounting and office jobs throughout her working years, including eight years at 3M doing accounting and several years as bookkeeper for her sister Liz's business. She loved cats and always had at least one living with her. Chris enjoyed playing cards and dice, dancing, flower gardening, shopping, antique hunting, and traveling throughout the USA and Europe with her husband, John. She visited her parents and sister on the West Coast frequently, and helped them out when they needed a hand. Family members and friends call her kind, accepting, and caring, and they say she had a great sense of humor and was always ready to help. Chris is survived by her husband, John Guinan; her sister, Liz Schmidt, who currently resides in Florida with her husband John and daughter Alexa; and her stepson, John Guinan Jr., who lived two of his teenage years with Chris and John and currently resides in Hawaii. Her parents, Harold and Dorothy Schroeppel, passed away in 2008 in Orange County, California, where they had moved in 1968 for her dad's job at Shell Oil. Services will be held on October 15 at Jay B. Smith funeral home in Fenton, Missouri. Chris's ashes will be interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis County, Missouri. Chris loved flowers; but if you prefer, donations can be made to her favorite charity, the ASPCA: https://secure.aspca.org/donate/donate. Her presence will remain in our hearts as she goes to be with Jesus; and she will reside forever in His loving embrace. We hope to be reunited with her at the end of our days. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16)
