Charles Lester Wentworth, lovingly known as "Chuck" or "Doc," of St. Louis, passed away on October 2, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on April 24, 1943, in Great Falls, Montana, to Charles and Marion Wentworth, Chuck lived a life dedicated to music, education, and service. A proud Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam era as a member of the Army Band and directed the Army Choir, sharing his remarkable gift of music with his fellow servicemen and women. After his military service, Chuck pursued higher education, earning a bachelor's degree in Music from the University of Montana and later completing both his Master's and Doctorate in Music Education at Washington University in St. Louis. His passion for teaching led him to serve as an orchestra teacher in the Rockwood and Clayton School Districts, where he inspired countless students to find joy and discipline through music. While at Clayton, he also managed the district's theater, further blending his talents for music and production. Chuck's professional path later brought him to the St. Louis Art Museum, where he managed the theater and enriched the cultural life of the community. He also worked with Characters and Company, lending his expertise in sound and lighting to countless productions and performances. Beyond his career, Chuck had many passions. He was an animal lover-especially fond of rabbits-and he enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing in his beloved Montana. He will be remembered for his generosity, dedication, and the way he brought music and light into the lives of others. Chuck is preceded in death by his parents and three siblings. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pam Wenthworth; one son, Christopher Wentworth (Shannon) of Buxtehude, Germany; one daughter, Michelle Wentworth of St. Louis; five nieces, Ricki Ritter, Charlene Jackson, Kathy Bubnash, Liz Young and Jenna McKerracher; one nephew, Aaron Haugen; sister-in-law, Andi Baumgardner; and several other family members, friends and former students. A Celebration of Chuck's life will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025 from 2-4pm at the Richmond Heights Community Center. The online obituary and guestbook are available at www.JayBSmith.com.
