Celene Teresa Hanley (nee Hanson), aged 85, went home to be with the Lord on September 2, 2024, at De Greef Hospice House surrounded by family. Celene was born November 14, 1938, and lived in St. Louis, Missouri her entire life. She is survived by her loving children, Chris (Joe) Nuccio, Kim (Bob) Timmerman, Steve (Sandy) Hanley, Todd (Jill) Hanley, Lisa (Mitch Oltman) Blake; brothers, Ben (MaryAnn) Hanson, Bill Hanson and Ed (Charlotte) Hanson, grandchildren, Pam (Tom) Rettew, Jennifer Svoboda, Shane Hanley, Dylan (Anne-Elise) Hanley, Robin Hanley, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and dear friends. Celene was the heart of her family, as well as a "Mom" to many others. She was a kind and compassionate person who never knew a stranger. Many will attest that she sent birthday and anniversary cards to practically everyone she ever knew. She enjoyed her family above all else. She was an avid sports fan, particularly of the St. Louis Cardinals but also the St. Louis Blues. She was an athlete herself, playing softball into her fifties. Many young girls were blessed to be coached by her as well. Celene had unwavering faith that guided and sustained her in all she did. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be missed more than words can express. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Tracy (Hanley) Wright, her ex-husband, Gerald Hanley, her parents, Edward and Charlotte Hanson; two sisters, Charlotte Mae Ward Schaefer and Sister Georgeanne Hanson; one nephew, Eddie Hanson, one niece, Laurie Ruhl and several sister-, brother-, niece- and nephew- in-laws. A visitation gathering will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024, followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church, 4200 Ripa Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63125. The family will have a private interment at Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date. The family requests charitable donations be made to St. Patrick Center, 800 N. Tucker Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63101 or Oasis International, 5035 Gravois Ave., St. Louis, MO 63116. Either would honor Celene's heart for the homeless and refugees.
