Bettie Smith June 13, 1925 - May 16, 2022 Bettie Mae Smith, 96, of High Ridge, passed away (9:30 am, Monday, May 16, 2022) at her home in High Ridge, MO. She was the oldest daughter of the late George Arthur and Elizabeth Stone (Williams) Dunbar born 13 Jun 1925 in Wellsville, Montgomery Co., Missouri. She was united in marriage to the late Peyton Lloyd Smith, 5 Jan 1945, in St. Louis, Missouri. Visitation on Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Jay B. Smith Funeral Home in Fenton, MO. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, May 20, 2022 Burial will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery, Middletown, Missouri. Bettie was a woman of faith who accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized in 1938, at the age of 13. She was a faithful member of Murphy Baptist Church for over 60 years. She held many positions within the church including Sunday School Director and Preschool Director. For many years she served as a Youth Choir Counselor, aka Flashlight Bettie. She enjoyed sewing, needlework, plastic canvas, gardening and was a Demolay mother. Since July 2021, Bettie snapped green beans, just about every day. At times, it was a little difficult to locate the beans, but she had a steady supply until the end. She lived a long life loving her family and her Lord. Bettie is survived by six of her 8 children: Bettie Jean (Larry) Reynolds of Rogersville, Missouri, Dennis Smith of Valley Park, Patricia (Michael) Arnhart of High Ridge, Barry (Karen) Smith of High Ridge, Mary (Charles) Abell of St. Louis, Laurie (Rodney) Mullins of Keokuk, Iowa; two siblings: Alan (Diana) Dunbar, and Margie Vedder, both of Wellsville, Missouri. Sixteen grandchildren: Deanna Jean (Alan), Jeff, Penny, David Andrew, Dennis Wayne (Kim), Tracy (Stan), Jeremy (Kim), Jacob (Hannah), Bradley, Kelley (John) McKasy, Christopher (Genevieve), Jessi (Brad), Dustin (Barb), Lindsey (Sean), Patrick (Tracey), Nicholas. Seventeen great grandchildren: Austin, Nathan, Angie, Joe, Seth (Haley), Amelia, Gwen, Charlotte, Sky, Peyton, August, Saul, Mason, Levi, Isaiah, Troy, Odin, Alyssa. One great, great grandchild: Dean, with the second, Ensley Arnhart due July 2022. Along with Bettie's parents and husband, Bettie was preceded in death by two children; Joyce Ann and David Lloyd Smith; two grandchildren; Steven Ray and Stephanie; one great grandchild: Cheyanne; and two sisters, Madge Whyte and Joan Slavens.
