Barry John Sullivan, local artist and guitarist died suddenly on February 28, 2023 at his home in The Hill Neighborhood. He was 72 years old. Barry was born in Rochester, New York. The son of Dr. Albert and Joan Sullivan. Barry attended the Rochester Institute of Technology and received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and his MFA from Fontbonne University. Barry's expertise was painting and lithography. Barry's artwork is represented through public and private collections throughout the world, including the Regional Arts Commission in St. Louis. Barry was also a talented musician, mastering numerous instruments. He played both bass and lead guitar for several well known local bands, including the Potato Thieves and the Barry Sullivan Blues Band. He was a founding member of The Red, White and Blues Band in Rochester, NY in the 70's. Barry is survived by his three children, Kali, Michael (Andrea) and Meaghan Sullivan and his adored grandchildren Benjamin, Molly and Lucy Sullivan. He is also survived by his sister Judy Hicks(Paul) and his life partner of 20 years Laura Costello. A celebration of Barry's life, art and music will be held at a later date.
