Alvin Joseph McFarland, Jr., also affectionately known as "Sonny", "AJ" or "Al", 81, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. He was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing and during the days immediately prior to his passing. He was under the care of Alternative Hospice for the last few days of his life. The family is grateful that they kept him comfortable during this time. He was the beloved husband of the late Jean "Jeannie"/"Gee" L. McFarland (nee Reynolds). Adored son of his parents Alvin and Caroline McFarland, who preceded him in death. Loving father of Lynn Marie Martin and Michael Steven McFarland. Dearest father-in-law of Cari F. McFarland (nee Foust) and Richard "Rick" M. Haussman. Cherished grandfather "Papa" of four beautiful grandchildren Raely McFarland, Aydan McFarland, Isabella "Issy" Martin, and Maya Martin. And step-grandfather to Anna, Jack and Kate Haussman. Endeared brother to Patricia "Pat" Guehring (Donald "Don"), Mary Anna Dryden (late Louis "Lou"), the late Sarah Pfyl (late Donald "Doc"), Carol Horridge (Robert "Bob"), the late John (late Betty) and the late James "Jim". Dear and loving friend of Mary Kuban. Proud uncle, cousin, and friend to countless other dear ones. He was a long-time parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Valley Park, MO. He enjoyed listening to Cardinals and Blues games. He loved music and singing. He never met a stranger, and he was very generous to all! Visitation and services will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Jay B. Smith Funeral Home Chapel, 777 Oakwood Dr., Fenton, MO. Visitation: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Service: 12:15 pm. Procession at 1:00 pm to Resurrection Cemetery, 6901 MacKenzie Rd., St. Louis, MO.
