James Lee Hendrix

James Lee Hendrix, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 73 on July 26, 2020. He was born on March 16, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri. Jim worked as an electrical engineer and had a passion for photography and collecting. He was known to spend many hours and days at the Missouri Botanical Gardens taking photos of the beautiful flowers and landscapes. Jim was an avid collector of 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair antiques as well as coins. Additionally, Jim was fond of his African Grey parrot, Zelda. Jim is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 49 years, Mary Anna Hendrix (Mathes). Together they raised two daughters, Karyn and Barbara, and enjoyed six grandchildren. Karyn and Lance Huntley and Barbara and Mark Ybarra celebrate the life of Jim along with his grandchildren Hayley Renae Huntley, Cole Hendrix Huntley, Reid Russell Huntley, Charles James Ybarra, Bryan Edward Ybarra, and Mykayla Anna Ybarra. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Marvin and is survived by his mother, Shirley Sable Hendrix (McDonnell), and his sister, Janet Elaine Signaigo (Hendrix). A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, 10:00 am at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting contributions towards a memorial brick at the Missouri Botanical Gardens in honor of Jim.
